Chardham Yatra Guide 2026 – Tips, Dates & Preparation

Essential information for planning your Char Dham tour: best time, registration, packing, and safety.

Best Months for Chardham Yatra

The Chardham temples open after Akshaya Tritiya (usually April–May) and close around Diwali (October–November). The best months for Chardham Yatra are typically May to June (spring-summer) and September to October (post-monsoon). July–August sees monsoon; roads can be risky. We recommend avoiding peak monsoon for family and senior travel. Temple opening and closing dates are announced by the temple committees and state government; we keep our guests informed for Chardham Yatra 2026 booking.

Registration Process

Registration for Char Dham Yatra is mandatory. Pilgrims need to register online (Uttarakhand government portal) or at designated counters. We assist our guests with registration guidance and required documents. Carry valid ID; some routes may require biometric registration. Booking helicopter for Kedarnath also requires advance registration and is subject to availability and weather.

What to Pack

Pack warm layers (temperatures drop at high altitude), rain gear, comfortable walking shoes, medicines, and a small first-aid kit. Carry ID proofs and registration printouts. For senior citizens, we recommend extra warm clothing, prescribed medicines, and a copy of medical history. Avoid overpacking; luggage space in vehicles is limited.

Medical Preparation

Consult your doctor before the trip, especially if you have heart, lung, or blood pressure issues. High altitude can affect health. Carry prescribed medicines and inform your coordinator of any conditions. Stay hydrated and avoid alcohol. We can suggest itineraries with more rest days for seniors.

Weather Conditions

Weather in the Himalayas is unpredictable. Mornings can be cold even in summer; afternoons may be sunny. Rain or snow is possible in higher areas. Check forecasts before travel and rely on your operator for route advisories. We monitor weather and adjust plans when necessary for safety.

Temple Opening Dates

Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath open and close on dates set by temple committees, usually around Akshaya Tritiya and Bhai Dooj. Exact dates for 2026 will be announced closer to the season. Our packages are planned according to the official calendar so your Chardham Yatra from Delhi or Haridwar aligns with opening dates.

Helicopter Booking Tips

Helicopter services to Kedarnath (and sometimes Badrinath) are subject to weather and slot availability. Book early for the 2026 season. Weight limits and baggage restrictions apply. We include helicopter options in our Do Dham helicopter package and can guide you on best booking windows and backup plans if flights are cancelled.
